These homages to Edgar Allen Poe have a cozy sensibility rather than the dark tinge of horror that Poe himself exhibits. The pieces are all well written, and of consistently high quality, perhaps because the authors are friends. I normally don't read short story collections because of the lurching effect of moving from one author to another. In this case I was pleased to find that the quality of the writing was quite consistent. The idea of writing pieces set in the same small town and all referencing Edgar Allen Poe may have contributed to the sense of coherence. However, in some cases, familiarity with the Poe inspiration robbed the current stories of the element of surprise at the end. An enjoyable read, overall.Product details

Enjoyable short stories that sometimes seem familiar especially for those fans of Edgar Allan Poe, but also provide an occasional twist.

Loved the futuristic versions of the Poe stories. I especially loved the ending of Within These Walls! All I have to say about it is...Justice Served!
People amaze me that the can take the old, give it a twist, & make it new. Very cleverly done.
Five short with wonderful twists to the originals. The different writing styles added flavor to the stories. I would recommend.
Five cozy mystery authors took 5 of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories and rewrote them in today's time period. They were all set in the town of Raven, Maine. These stories were so well done. You recognized the stories they were taken from, but there was always a fresh new take on it. Some even had a twist that I did not see coming. No one can beat the master, but these were so well done and so enjoyable. I hope they write a sequel to this. I would certainly buy it.
Being a fan of cozy mysteries, and a huge fan of Poe, I couldn't have wished for a better tribute collection of stories, than what is contained in this wonderfully entertaining book! So much amazing talent and really good writing, these ladies have given Poe's timeless tales a modern look, and it more than works. It's fantastic!! So glad I found it while looking through 's books for something to read before bed. Hope there's a Volume 2 some time soon!
